What happened?

Jonathan B. - is it so hard to strike them out in the last inning?  That was a crushing loss to the Marlins.  So very hard to watch, so I decided to do laundry instead last night.  My family thanks you Jonathan B.

Easter weekend

Had a very nice weekend.  Spent a lot of time texting with my daughter and son-in-law who managed to score tickets to all 3 games in Chicago this weekend.  Told my son-in-law that there is no crying in baseball.  Day 2, the Dodgers lose so like a good sport I ignore his texts.  My daughter put a picture of Davey Lopes up on her facebook wall just for me.

It was just announced that the Texas Rangers' former president will take over the Dodgers.  Not sure how that will go.  Like a good fan, I will stay tuned.

Another day, another take over

We are about 24 hours in to the Dodgers being run by the MLB.  Thanks Bud Selig.

Yesterday was also Don Mattingly's 50th birthday.  See my other post.  I cannot say enough about 50th birthdays this year (hint hint) and the Dodgers should be doing some special promo for that (strong hint hint).  Glad they won for him.

Read about Russell Martin using orange polish on his fingernails instead of tape to make sure the pitchers see the signals.  Yeah, just yeah.

It is fun to watch young guys, like Jerry Sands, who come up and play in the big leagues.  The joy they have doing it.  The jump up and bump at the end of the win he does with his fellow outfielders Either and Kemp:  just be careful. I am a mom.  I have to say such things.

Another loss.  The news is all about the first home Dodger game tonight since the beating of the Giants fan.  More security is what we are promised, well I hope so.  Not something I need my kids to see:  the opposing team's fan being beaten.  Why didn't someone get the license plate number?  There is no way you can get away in that parking lot.  Not with the lines I have experienced.

On another note, really Tony Gwynn Jr.?  You just had to try stealing that base last night.  Arrrgghh.  I should have watched "Hoarding: Buried Alive" would have been less horrible.  Although Teacher man refuses to watch that show with me.  lol

When it rains.....

So the idea was to take the kids and I to Petco Park.  We have never been there, though Teacher man has.  Good idea.  Spring break and all.

We arrive one hour early on Friday.  We are enjoying the park, the music, and we are sure those clouds are not going to send rain.  We take our seats and the game will not start at 7:00 but 7:30.  Darn, but we sit.  Lots of Dodger fans there.  It starts then about a half hour later the rain comes.  We were under the over-hang but here comes the fans trying desperatly to get out of the rain.  After one hour of nice conversation by both Padre and Dodger fans, we had had enough.  No telling when they would begin to play ball.  We left and after about 1/2 hour on the road, they game has begun.  At the top of the 9th, tied 2-2, at 1:40 a.m. the game was called again.  But the Dodgers won the next day in the 11th inning, then a 20 minute break, and the next game started.

Dave Roberts, a past Dodger favorite of both Teacher man and I is the Padre's first base coach.  Between he and Davey Lopes (sigh) there is going to be a lotta base stealing this season.  It will be fun to watch.

Padres did a nice tribute to Duke Snider, who had once worked for them.

Fun weekend and a birthday plea

4 games, one loss and 3 wins.  One Giants fan beaten up which is not cool, not cool at all.  I hope no kids witnessed that attack.  We Dodger fans are better than that!!  Teacher man (aka husband) and son are going to a Giants game in a couple of months.  Son has never been to that stadium.  They will not be wearing their Dodger gear for fear of someone wanting to retaliate.  Sad.

Now, onto my birthday.  Someone besides Obama is turning 50 in August.  That would be me.  I really, really, really want to sit in those seats that look like a box, or like certain Hollywood bowl seats.  I think they are $200 each.  No can do.  But I am full of hope.  So wish me luck as I pray for tickets.  (I want to sit in each section of Dodger stadium.  That is a goal.  Well that and to win the Pillsbury bake off.)

Which reminds me the pecan orange cake I made for friend's birthday this weekend was a big hit.
